United Kingdom
The largest single corridor out of Pakistan, and mostly family visits rather than tourism. The form is completed online and biometrics given at a centre in Islamabad, Lahore or Karachi. Your travel evidence should line up with your sponsor's invitation, and the guidance is explicit about not buying a ticket first.
Schengen Area
The consulates in Islamabad and Karachi, and the centres that take files for them, compare three things: your stated dates, your itinerary and the cover on your travel insurance. All three are expected to describe one trip, and a gap between any two of them sends the file back.
United States
Interviews are held at the embassy in Islamabad and the consulates in Karachi and Lahore, with dates issued well in advance. The officer is weighing why you would come home. An itinerary lets you answer that with specifics while your money stays where it is.
Saudi Arabia
Umrah and family visit travel, usually arranged through an approved operator. The operator and the airline both want the return sector, and the dates have to sit inside the validity the visa grants rather than run past the end of it.
United Arab Emirates
Visit visas are normally sponsored by an airline, a hotel or a relative, and the terms for Pakistani applicants have been tightened more than once. A confirmed return or onward booking is asked for on the application and checked again at the departure gate.
Canada
Visitor visas and study permits ask what the trip is for and how it has been planned. Processing from this region runs long enough that an early purchase is likely to need changing before an answer arrives.
Australia
Subclass 600 asks you to set out your intended travel and attach the evidence to the online application. A reservation answers that without fixing you to a date the department has not yet approved.
Turkey, Malaysia and Thailand
Popular for a first trip abroad, and each has its own e-visa or on-arrival terms for Pakistani passports. Whatever those say on the day, the airline will still want a return or onward ticket before it checks you in.

Why a Pakistani flight reservation for visa comes back
It is almost never the reservation. It is the reservation contradicting the sponsor, the leave letter or the bank statements.
Flights the invitation does not support
On a family visit file the sponsor's letter states when they expect you and for how long. If your itinerary says six weeks and the letter says two, the officer is reading two documents about different trips.
Names shortened or reordered
Copy each traveller's name from the passport exactly – full given names, the father's or husband's name where the passport carries it, and nothing abbreviated because it runs long. A name that does not match the passport is the quickest way to have the document set aside.
